About us:

The team at Nutkins are proud to have created a calm, secure and welcoming environment, where children are supported to become competent inquisitive learners. We are lucky to be positioned in the beautiful countryside area of Nuthurst and based on the site of St Andrews C of E Primary School.

We have spent the summer transforming our new play space  into  a rich holistic environment full of open ended resources , loose parts and everyday items which aims to create “thinkers & doers” by putting the child at the centre of their own development and education.

We have taken inspiration from “The Curiosity Approach” where we encourage  a child’s natural curiosity and eagerness to explore by offering a range of play activities and experiences both inside and outdoors. We enjoy exploring the local area and watching the changing seasons unfold on our doorstep.

We take pride in building strong relationships with our children and their families both past and present and being based on the site of St Andrews Primary we can offer a very smooth and easy transition into school.

Please pop in and see us if your curious as our doors are always open!

The Nutkins Team.

Funding information

Children can use 15 hours per week or more and over 38 weeks at Nutkins Pre-school, government funding of 15/30hours extended accepted with the option of purchasing additional sessions.

2 YEARS OLD- FREE FUNDING (THE TERM AFTER YOUR CHILD TURNS 2)

Funding is now available for eligible children aged 2-3 and each application is assessed by the Department for Work and Pensions. Eligible families will be contacted by the local family information service with a unique reference code. Once you are in receipt of this code, please contact preschool for further information. Children who are eligible for 2 year old funding, do not pay any additional service charges which only becomes applicable once claiming 3 & 4 year old funding.

3 AND 4 YEARS OLD- FREE FUNDING (THE TERM AFTER YOUR CHILD TURNS 3)

The government’s policy states that the funding does not cover any snacks, meals, nappies, wipes, additional services such as trips and outings that the preschool provides . The pre-school is permitted to charge for these as ‘additional services’ (£3.00 per session) which helps cover the disparity between the service Nutkins Pre-school provides and the rate of funding received from the government which is intended to pay for care only.

Nutkins Pre-school - Intent-Implementation-Impact

Intent:

It is our intent to enable all children to flourish from their individual starting blocks.

We embrace what each family brings to our setting and work with them to support their children to become independent learners.

It is our intention that the children experience the 7 areas of learning through play. This will be through the child’s interests, topics, themes and an ambitious and challenging curriculum.

Our intent is that all children feel happy, build positive relationships and develop a love of learning through play.

Implementation:

Children will build positive relationships with others through a “key person” who gets to know the whole family well and help their child to settle into pre-school.

All practitioners are supportive, value the children’s learning choices and decisions, get to know their individual learning styles and recognise that they develop in their own ways.

Our environment at Nutkins enable children to lead their own learning and follow their own interests. They are given meaningful experiences that allow them to builds on the knowledge they already have.

The children are given time for uninterrupted play an open ended resources which enable them to think for themselves. They have opportunities to revisit learning and extent their investigations.

The children are supported and encouraged to have a go at activities, ask their own questions and think critically for themselves.

The development of their language  and communication skills is valued and practitioners introduce them to new vocabulary, model language and engage them in conversation about their lives and interests. A love of reading is developed through the sharing of good quality texts.

Impact: Children are assessed by the whole staff team so that activities can be planned in response to their developing needs.

They become motivated learners who persevere even when faced with challenges . They leave happy, independent individuals who are confident in their abilities and ready to move on to the next learning stage.

Parent Partnership:

We pride ourselves on the relationships that we build up with all our families, after all as parents you are the most important people in their lives. We shall work together to support and nurture your child. We observe children in play which enables us to monitor your child’s development and plan next steps in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage. In addition to this we will provide you with a 2 year Progress check which consists of a written summary of your child’s progress in the prime areas of learning. This can be shared with all relevant professionals  at your child’s integrated progress check.

Snacks:

A Healthy mid-morning snack of fruit, toast, crackers, breadsticks ect. is provided and children are encouraged to drink throughout the day at Nutkins.

Lunch:

We ask that the children bring in a packed lunch box and drinks bottle from home. Packed lunches need to contain healthy foods and be nut free, we also ask that small round items (Cherry tomatoes, grapes etc.) are cut into quarters following safety guidelines.

What to wear:

We recommend that children wear comfortable and practical clothes that you do not mind getting messy! A change of clothing can also be provided in a small rucksack. To aid toileting and independence loose clothing is recommended and when potty training plenty of spares plus  shoes is also helpful.

Outside:

We love to play outside and have an excellent area that is used in all weathers, with this in mind could you please ensure your child comes with suitable clothing depending on the weather and our changing seasons, hats, coats, wellies, sun cream ext.

Illness:

Parents are pleased asked to keep their child home if they have any infectious illness. In the case of vomiting and diarrhoea your child should not return to preschool until at least 48hours has passed after their last attack. If you have any concerns or queries please contact the setting for advice. We are unable to administer medication unless prescribed by your GP, in original named packaging and permission is given.

If you have any concerns or queries please contact the setting for advice.

We provide all nappies and wipes for your child.
