Attendance
We cannot emphasize enough the importance of attending school regularly. Regular school attendance has been proven to support children and young people's educational, economic, and social outcomes. It facilitates positive peer relationships, which contribute to better mental health and wellbeing.
Attending school is crucial in preparing young people for successful transitions to adulthood and supporting their long-term economic and social participation in society. Additionally, there is evidence to suggest that students with the highest attendance throughout their time in school achieve the best GCSE and A level results.
As per government regulations, genuine illness will be authorised absences. However, in exceptional cases, the school reserves the right to ask for confirmation from a medical professional. On the other hand, any holidays or other unacceptable reasons for absence will be classified as unauthorised.
We want to bring your attention to the consequences of a child's unauthorised absence building up to a minimum of 10 half-day sessions in a ten school week period. In such cases, the Headteacher is required to inform the Local Authority, who will then issue a Fixed Penalty Notice and fine.
